H2020 SOCLIMPACT project launches a new climate service for the European islands and outermost regions

In the framework of Η2020 SOCLIMPACT, in which IERSD-NOA participates, a new climate service aiming to support regional adaptation policy design and to mainstream adaptation outcomes into the EU Adaptation Strategy has been developed. The developed Regional Exchange Information System (REIS) is an open and multidisciplinary platform in which stakeholders propose new ideas of collaborative work, and activities with the scientific communities engaged in the study of Climate Impacts and Risk Management strategies of blue economy sectors. Through its Adaptation Support Tool for Islands, the REIS platform allows stakeholders to access the specific knowledge generated by SOCLIMPACT project, regarding physical impacts, non-market and socio-economic impacts of climate change for 12 EU islands (Crete, Cyprus, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Malta, Azores, Madeira, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, West Indies and Fehmarn). It also proposes alternative viable adaptation pathways taking into account the geographic, economic, and social specificities of each island. The H2020 SOCLIMPACT climate service offers a huge opportunity for all islands and coastal areas to discuss and gain insights on climate change issues as well as to establish a benchmark for Adaptation and Blue Growth.
